Golf The Signature 17th Hole

The Signature 17th golf course hole - North Course.

NORTH COURSE

The North Course is a Hawaii resort course and is fast becoming known as the Mauna Lani Resort's tournament golf course.

A bit more difficult than the South Course, the North Course is on rolling terrain with Kiawe (mesquite) forests. Trees often come into play on this Hawaii golf course. It is built on a lava bed much older than the Kaniku flow on which the South Course lies.

Number 17, a par three tucked into a natural lava amphitheater, is one of Mauna Lani Resort's signature holes and a favorite "I was here" photo spot.

SOUTH COURSE

South Golf Course Mauna Lani

The South Course is renown as the former home to the annual Senior Skins Game from 1990 - 2000.

This course snakes through the stark, rugged a'a lava of the prehistoric Kaniku lava flow.

A playful fictitious Menehune by the name of Moke has been known to frequent the lava areas surrounding this course. If your ball is headed toward the lava, try shouting, "Help, Moke!" (instead of what you might otherwise shout). If Moke favors you, your ball may miraculously bounce back onto the fairway.

Besides great Hawaii golf, this challenging golf course offers a stunning panorama of mountain and ocean views. The South Course is home to Number 15, one of the most photographed over-the-water golf course holes in the world.

Francis H. I'i Brown Golf Course South Course

The Francis H. I'i Brown North and South Hawaii golf courses are truly remarkable for the vast fields of dark black lava out of which they were constructed.

The original 18 holes were opened in 1981. It was a visually spectacular Hawaii golf course that featured one par-3 hole crossing a wide Pacific inlet, another par-3 playing into a coliseum of lava, and many holes whose primary challenge was to hit the bright green fairways and greens, avoiding the lava formations in the landing areas and on both sides of the fairways.

The course received rave reviews from the moment it opened. In 1991, Mauna Lani Resort wanted to add another 18 holes. It was decided to split the existing course into two nines and add nine new holes to each side. The signature par-3s were split between the courses, and several new holes on each course play down to or in front of the Pacific Ocean. This provides the setting for a truly spectacular golfing experience.
